Plompe toren
History: In 1468 , Lodewijk van Gruuthu(u)se purchased the "Coudekerk" estate. He built a new church because the old one had fallen into disrepair around 1400. The Scheldt shifted its course northward at the expense of the southern part of Schouwen . In 1581, the dike along the Plompe Toren was constructed as an inland dike, running straight through the village. [ source? ] People left the village, and in 1583 the church was demolished, but the tower remained standing. It served as a beacon for shipping on the river. All ships sailing to Antwerp passed by here. The Western Scheldt was not yet navigableThe Plompe Toren (also known as Plompetoren ) is a church tower on the Oosterschelde , a few kilometers south of Burgh-Haamstede . The tower (23 meters high) is the only remaining vestige of Koudekerke , a village on Schouwen-Duiveland that has since disappeared into the Oosterschelde . The tower stands just inside the dike and within the dike body : a hollow has been created around the base in the inner slope of the Oosterschelde dike. The Plompe Toren attracts many visitors due to the unique position it occupies in the landscape.

F-104G ( FX45 as “D-8030” of the Royal Netherlands Air Force)
Aircraft manufacturer Lockheed managed to produce the best design: the Starfighter. The first prototype was released in 1954. The aircraft was revolutionary! By then, there was more knowledge in the fields of aerodynamics, production techniques, and electronics, allowing for the construction of more powerful engines and significantly improving flight performance. The aircraft were lightning fast and could climb to higher altitudes.
Its appearance was also spectacular. With an elongated fuselage and small, thick wings, it looked like a rocket. And when it flew, you could hear the wailing sound of the engine, allowing you to recognize it even before seeing it. Incidentally, the American Air Force did not use the Starfighters for very long. In the 1960s, they were replaced by newer models.
Europe also had to replace its jet fighters during this decade and opted en masse for the Lockheed F-140s. The first one in the Netherlands landed at Twenthe Air Base in 1962; the last time an F-104 took off in the Netherlands was in 1984.
A statue of this type of jet fighter stands in a meadow along the Ringweg in Oosterland. It is freely accessible and makes it fun to take a close look at such an air force aircraft!

Bistro In den koning
Waterlandkerkje, situated in Zeelandic Flanders and thus a little country of its own.
A stone's throw from the beautiful coast where fishermen bring us the finest produce from the sea; on their way here, they pass the fields and meadows where our other products grow and flourish.
We could not be better situated than in this Burgundian corner of the Netherlands, although sometimes we do feel like Flemings for a moment—in short,
the best of both worlds.
Our menu consists of the best of the moment, varied and different, but with classics as a base, with occasional forays into the beautiful French and Flemish cuisine. But secretly, we’re just staying right here. Because it’s so lovely here.
We are open from Thursday to Monday
from 11:00 AM.

Saint Malo
Saint-Malo, the city of privateers, is protected by extraordinary maritime fortifications designed by Vauban at the end of the 17th century. It’s only a short step from romantic Brittany and its medieval fortresses. The advanced posts are numerous around Saint-Malo. In order to defend the kingdom from English and Dutch invasions, Louis XIV entrusted Vauban with the protection of the French coast. But the man who carried out the work was none other than Garangeau, appointed by Vauban as “chief engineer and director of the fortifications of Saint-Malo”. The citadels built on rocks in the middle of the sea bear witness to the military genius of the Sun King’s engineers.
In order to protect the town, the Bay of Saint-Malo was fortified as early as the 17th century. Based on plans by Vauban (King Louis XIV’s chief architect), Garangeau built the 4 forts on the offshore islets, making the harbour entrances impregnable. The best attractions in Saint - Malo The Ramparts of Saint - Malo . 4.7. Bergh Castle
Bergh Castle, locally known as Kasteel Huis Bergh, lies in the town of 's-Heerenbergh, in the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands.
The first Bergh Castle on this location dates back to around 1240 and consisted of a moated, round, tuff stone tower with a separate moated bailey. Excavations in 1938 revealed the foundation of this tower. Both tower and bailey were originally strengthened by a palisade, which was replaced by a circular stone defensive wall before 1300.
As the castle has been continually inhabited, the building and rebuilding kept on going. Probably before 1400 the round tower was torn down and replaced by a large square keep. Also other large parts of the present castle were built before 1450; the main residential building and 2 of the 3 towers on the bailey.
In the 16th century the castle underwent major rebuilding by Count Willem IV van den Bergh. In the 80-Years War with Spain the Count sided with his brother-in-law; Prince William of Orange. Because of this he was summoned before the Council of Blood, of the Spanish Count Alva, in 1568. He fled to Germany with his family and his possessions were confiscated. During these times the castle was repeatedly sieged and suffered a lot of damage. When Count Willem could return, in 1576, the castle had been dismantled and no longer had any military purpose.
In the following century a true building frenzy followed; the war damages were repaired, on the bailey a large industrial building was build, the inner courtyard was lowered by 2 meters, a stair tower, a large staircase and a new residential wing were build. Also the face of the residential building was plastered white and the keep was equipped with a spire.
The year 1735 however was a disastrous year for the castle. It was totally destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt afterwards but it didn't retrieve its old splendor. Also the moats were partially filled in. The castle itself became a priest seminary.
In 1912 Bergh Castle, which was in poor condition due to bad maintenance, was bought by a local industrialist JH. van Heek. He started a large restoration to save the castle. In 1929 the restorations were completed, but alas, in 1939 another fire broke out which again destroyed the largest part of the castle. Again JH. van Heek took up the restoration works. These gave the castle its present appearance.
The castle houses a large late-medieval art collection. It can be visited for a fee.

barrage de Robertville
The Robertville Dam is an impressive sight! The dam was built in 1928 and has a height of 55 m. When you walk across the dam, you have a beautiful view of Lake Robertville. This reservoir was built on the River Warche and has a surface area of 62 hectares. The reservoir supplies the city of Malmédy with drinking water and also serves as a water reservoir for a hydroelectric power plant in Bévercé. If you are driving from Malmédy, you can pull into a small car park on your left just before the dam. There is also a cafeteria located here where you can get something to eat and drink. There is also a clean toilet. Four nice walking routes start at this car park. The blue walking route, "In the Footsteps of Napoleon ," is highly recommended. At 5.2 km in length, it is manageable for young and old, and offers beautiful panoramic views. They are all walking loops, so the starting and ending points are at the car park.
