Man sollte aber etwas Zeit einplanen, es lohnt sich.**********Together with the fortress on the Schlosskopf, the Klause barrier, and Fort Claudia, the Ehrenberg castle ruins once guarded the entire valley—an impressive fortification complex that is well worth visiting. You should set aside some time for it; it is certainly worth the effort.

However, you should allow plenty of time for the visit.

At the head of the Rißtal valley, where one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Alps unfolds, the Großer Ahornboden (Great Maple Floor) offers a breathtaking natural spectacle. Over 2,200 sycamore maples, some over 600 years old and a riot of color in autumn, reach for the sky here. They were declared a natural monument as early as 1927. Why this extensive stand of trees was able to develop in an area used for centuries as pastureland remains unclear. It's possible that cattle diseases or the Thirty Years' War led to the valley floor being left ungrazed for extended periods.Numerous cows spend their summers on the Großer Ahornboden each year. Their milk is processed into butter and cheese at the Eng Alm, the oldest alpine pasture in Tyrol with its thousand-year history. You can watch the hardworking cheesemaker, who has been passionately producing top-quality cheese for many years, at work. Or simply enjoy the delicacies on the sunny alpine terrace, where the majestic mountain scenery smiles down upon you.

Vrangfoss Locks is a popular tourist attraction located in Lunde Municipality in Telemark County, Norway. This impressive work consists of a series of locks and dams along the historic Telemark Canal, and is a must-see for anyone visiting the area.

Crane Store and Cafe is a great place for a pit stop. Good thing, because there are not many places to get gas around here! This is one of those oasis locations that we need to support to make sure they stay alive and thriving.They have gas (and Diesel) from the pump right out front. They also have a small store and a cafe where you can have a meal. They even have a few RV spots if you need a place to camp.

This artificial island, one of the Coolest and Most Unusual Places to Visit in The Netherlands, was built in the 19th century to protect Amsterdam from enemy attacks. The fort built on this island has managed to dissuade the attackers for many years. It was however closed too early in 1933 before the rise of Nazism in Germany. During their occupation of the Netherlands the Nazis used this island as an anti-aircraft base. The fort then fell into ruin before being renovated in the 1990s by a heritage protection association. The island is open to the public from April 1st to November 1st (closed on Mondays). 

The monumental Hartenstein Villa was the headquarters of the British Airborne Division during the Battle of Arnhem (1944). Here, the stories of British, Polish and German soldiers come to life. Civilians also play an important role. Come and see our collection of authentic weaponry, documents, footage and photographs. The new multilingual audio tour provides 50 exhibits with personal background stories. Historian and bestseller author Antony Beevor voiced the English audio tour. In the underground Airborne Experience you will be transported into the very midst of the battle.

In 1804, General Marmont had the Pyramide van Austerlitz built as an homage to Napoleon and to give the 20,000 soldiers something to do. The design was inspired by the Pyramid of Gizeh. The visitor centre provides interesting information about the French era. Fort de Roovere is located in the far west corner of the province of Brabant, close to the border with Zeeland. It is an earthen fort, constructed as part of the Dutch Water Line, the Hollandse Waterlinie, a series of water-based defenses. In recent years extensive renovations have been done to the fort, as it had fallen into major disrepair. What got me really curious to visit this place is the Moses Bridge. This bridge appears to divide the water, so we know where it gets its name from. It seems like this bridge crosses through the water, something unique. Looking for some aerial views? Just recently the Pompejus watchtower was added to the area and opened to the public. Fort de Roovere for sure is an off the beaten path tourist destination in the Netherlands away from the crowds.

 Der Vorläufer der bekannten Sternwarte Effelsberg liegt auf einem Plateau mit Sicht über die rheinische Bucht. Die Anfahrt geht vorbei an einem Golf-Parkour, also besser aufpassen, dass man nicht von einem Golfball getroffen wird. Der Astropeiler ist mittlerweile nicht mehr in Benutzung, kann aber jeden Sonntag um 14:00 Uhr besucht werden.

Rebuild of a historic Bronze age building 

Maritim Museum Peenemünde U-461 is a museum in the harbour of Peenemünde on the island of Usedom in Germany. Its main exhibit is the former Soviet submarine U-461, originally K-24, belonging to Project 651, known in NATO as the Juliett class. It entered service in 1965 and operated mainly in the Baltic Sea and the North Atlantic. Today, visitors can walk through its interior and see the narrow corridors, cabins, technical rooms, and the atmosphere of a Cold War submarine. It is an impressive piece of naval history — a huge steel machine that feels slightly claustrophobic and very authentic. 

Cap Blanc-Nez, this cape on the Channel near the French municipality of Escalles in the Pas-de-Calais department. Its summit is 134 m above sea level. Cap Blanc-Nez is located 16 km northeast of Cap Gris-Nez. The cape can be reached on foot and by car. There is a walking path from the top of the cape to the beach.

visit Fort van Mimoyecques. This is exactly 150 kilometers from London and was intended as the basis for the V3 rocket, the successor of the V1 and V2. This was meant to wipe London off the map. For this, the German sers immense cannons invented 130 meters long, which had to be placed underground. The huge structure was literally leaked in July 1944 by an Allied 'Tallboy' bomb. The complex is open for public.

The Irreler Waterfalls are one of the most famous natural sites near Irrel. Here, the River Prüm flows through a rocky valley, between large stones, green banks, and hiking trails that connect to the Teufelsschlucht and the Ferschweiler Plateau. The flood disaster of 2021 clearly changed the area. The old wooden bridge disappeared, parts of the riverbed changed appearance, and the surroundings became wilder. Since the opening of the new suspension bridge in 2023, crossing the Prüm is possible again.

The Vajont Dam is located in northern Italy near the town of Longarone, in the Vajont valley close to Belluno. It was completed in the early 1960s and was one of the tallest arch dams in the world at the time. It became known for the tragedy of October 9, 1963: a massive landslide from Monte Toc fell into the reservoir and pushed water over the top of the dam. The dam itself mostly survived, but the resulting wave destroyed Longarone and nearby villages. Around 2,000 people died. Today, Vajont is mainly a memorial to one of Europe’s greatest engineering disasters and is often used as a warning about underestimating geology and risk in large construction projects. You can see the dam in the video at the link at 12:25. Přehrada Vajont leží v severní Itálii u obce Longarone, v údolí řeky Vajont nedaleko Belluna. The term Maar is derived from the Latin "mare" (=sea). It is a funnel-shaped type of volcano, formed by eruptions of water vapor that is "blasted" into the landscape and often presents itself as a bowl-shaped form. A maar is formed when rising magma and water-bearing rock layers meet. Violent explosions occur, and the surrounding rock, along with the magma, is shattered into its smallest components and hurled out of the explosion crater. A cavity forms in the area of ​​the explosion focus, which transitions into an explosion vent. If the rock above the cavity collapses, the explosion vent becomes a collapse or maar crater. After volcanic activity subsided, the craters filled with water. In total, more than 70 maar volcanoes have been counted in the Eifel; twelve maars are still filled with water, while the rest have already silted up.

Walk safely and stay dry while passing behind one of Norway's most popular waterfalls. Steinsdalsfossen, near Norheimsund, is easily accessible right next to the road. Steinsdalsfossen is one of the most frequently visited waterfalls and has a drop of 50 meters. Its unique feature is that you can walk along the path behind the waterfall without getting wet. The waterfall was formed in 1699 when the river changed its course. You can take a pleasant walk from the parking area up to the path behind the waterfall. Dosso dei Galli is a mountain ridge near Passo Maniva in Lombardy, Italy. The place is known for its abandoned former NATO base and panoramic views of the Alps. The base can be reached by off-road or adventure motorcycle. When leaving the road, you need to cross a ditch, but after that the route continues on asphalt and is not technically difficult.
