Brazos Point Bridge is a historic 1914 pin‑connected Pratt through‑truss bridge spanning the Brazos River between Johnson and Bosque Counties. Built by the Austin Bridge Company, it features three steel truss spans and a long series of timber approach spans, all resting above quiet farmland and riverbank woods. The bridge is narrow, single‑lane, and long abandoned since being bypassed in 2000, giving it a weathered, time‑capsule feel. The steelwork shows classic early‑20th‑century craftsmanship: lattice portal bracing, turnbuckles on the diagonal members, Jones & Laughlin‑marked steel, and visible pinned connections throughout the truss. Riders will find scenic views from both riverbanks, exposed structural details, and a peaceful rural atmosphere. Wildlife is common in the area, and a small memorial sits near the bridge. Although no longer open to vehicles, it remains an excellent stop for adventure riders who enjoy historic structures, photography, and quiet backroad exploration.

The old A4 motorway route near Kerpen and Düren in North Rhine-Westphalia is a famous "ghost motorway" and an abandoned site. In 2014, the roadway was relocated southward—at a cost of around 85 million euros—to make way for the Hambach open-cast lignite mine. THE HISTORY OF THE BASIL SANATORIUM In the village of Borgoumont in the Belgian Ardennes, an imposing building known as the Sanatorium du Basil stands atop a hill. This site boasts a rich history and was originally built as a tuberculosis sanatorium. In the late 19th century, tuberculosis was considered a fatal disease without proper treatment; consequently, sanatoriums sprang up across Europe in locations offering clean air and tranquility. The initiative to build this particular sanatorium came from Ernest Malvoz, head of the bacteriological laboratory. The building opened in 1903 and admitted its first patients. With the advent of better medications, the sanatorium lost its original purpose. At various times, it served as a hospital and later as a reception center for refugees. Ultimately, high energy costs forced the building to close permanently. Since then, it has been left to decay; it has suffered damage and fallen into disrepair, though it is now part of an urban development project. Although the sanatorium has stood empty for years, it has not yet been demolished; there are even discussions regarding a potential sale. Whether it will ever reopen remains to be seen. Until then, it remains an impressive and mysterious place for anyone who dares to take a look.DIE GESCHICHTE DES SANATORIUMS BASIL Im Dorf Borgoumont in den belgischen Ardennen steht auf einem Hügel ein imposantes Gebäude, bekannt als Sanatorium du Basil. Letztendlich zwangen hohe Energiekosten das Gebäude zur endgültigen Schließung. Seitdem ist es dem Verfall preisgegeben. Es wurde beschädigt, verfiel und dient nun als Teil eines Stadtentwicklungsprojekts. Obwohl das Sanatorium seit Jahren leer steht, wurde es noch nicht abgerissen. Es gibt sogar Gespräche über einen Verkauf. Ob es jemals wiedereröffnet wird, bleibt abzuwarten. Bis dahin ist es ein beeindruckender und geheimnisvoller Ort für alle, die es wagen, einen Blick darauf zu werfen.

The Hill of Crosses, where people not only from Lithuania have put crosses for couple centuries, witnesses faithfulness and trust of a Christian community to Christ and his Cross. This is an expression of a spontaneous religiousness of the people, and is a symbol not of grief and death but of Faith, Love and Sacrifice. From here the Pope blessed all people of Lithuania and all of Christian Europe.This place reminds You the freedom does not come by itself, You need to fight for it...The crosses on the Hill were first mentioned in written chronicles in 1850, but it is believed that the first crosses were put by the relatives of the victims of the rebellion in 1831 as the tsarist government did not allow the families to honor their deads properly. Crosses of the kind became more numerous after the other rebellion in 1863. In the beginning of the 20th century the Hill of Crosses was already widely known as a sacral place. In addition to many pilgrims visiting, it was also a place for Masses and devotions. The Hill of Crosses became of special importance during Soviet times – this was the place of anonymous but surprising persistence to the regime. The Soviet government considered the crosses and the hill a hostile and harmful symbol. In 1961 wooden crosses were broken and burnt, metal ones used as scrap metal and stone and concrete crosses were broken and buried. The hill itself was many times destroyed with bulldozers. During the 1973–1975 period about half a thousand crosses used to be demolished each year without even trying to do this secretly. Later the tactics became more subtle: crosses were demolished as having no artistic value, different “epidemics” were announced forbidding people to come into the region or the roads were blocked by police. The Hill was guarded by both the Soviet army and KGB. In 1978 and 1979 there were some attempts to flood the territory. Despite all these endeavors to stop people from visiting the Hill, crosses would reappear after each night.

It was the largest and most recognizable field headquarters of Adolf Hitler, used from 1941 to 1945. Located in Gierłoż near Kętrzyn, the Wolf’s Lair remains a remarkable tourist attraction today, despite the fact that the headquarters was blown up by the retreating German forces. It attracts nearly a quarter of a million visitors each year. The bunkers still hold many mysteries and continue to impress with their immense size, scale, and durability.  Hitler’s Headquarters for 800 Days of War Adolf Hitler spent a total of 800 days here. From this location, Operation Barbarossa (the invasion of the Soviet Union) was coordinated, and key decisions concerning the German war machine were made. The headquarters also housed many of the Third Reich’s highest-ranking officials, including Hermann Göring, Martin Bormann, Wilhelm Keitel, and Alfred Jodl. It was also here that one of the many assassination attempts on Hitler took place—the famous plot carried out by Claus von Stauffenberg in July 1944. Hotel Jägerhof is a family run hotel, where every room is different. The breakfast was excellent, the rooms are basic, but comfortable and clean. Our bathroom was a comfortable size with a rare treat: a shower with full water pressure. There is no lunch or dinner at the hotel, but an openly accessible fridge with all kinds of snacks and drinks. Payment on trust basis. And this is the vibe you see here. Be part of the family while here. Be good, receive good.Downtown are good dinner options. Check opening times - especially on Mondays.The Eifel area is great for motorcycling and visiting some castles on the way.

Beautifull place for an overnght stay. unfortually a bit overcrowded with campers (as everywhere in scandinavia) but still incredible. Keep your eyes on the sea. when we where there we spotted a whale and serveral dolphins.

Altes Zollhaus HerrnburgDas Alte Zollhaus in Herrnburg ist das älteste heute noch stehende Wohnhaus in dem mecklenburgischen Grenzort zur Hansestadt Lübeck. Es entstand als Kapelle an der Landstraße nach Schwerin. Das heutige Gebäude wurde 1783 auf den Fundamenten der Vorgängerkapelle als zweigeschossiger Fachwerkbau neben der Dorfkirche Herrnburg zunächst wiederum als Kapelle errichtet. Nach der Sanierung des Gebäudes Mitte der 1990er Jahre wurde es bis 2012 als Galerie genutzt. Seit 2013 wird das Alte Zollhaus von einem Geigenbauer mit seiner Familie bewohnt.The Old Customs House in Herrnburg is the oldest surviving residential building in this Mecklenburg border village near the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. It originated as a chapel on the country road to Schwerin. The current building—a two-story half-timbered structure—was erected in 1783 on the foundations of the previous chapel, located next to the Herrnburg village church; initially, it served as a chapel once again. Following its renovation in the mid-1990s, the building was used as a gallery until 2012. Since 2013, the Old Customs House has been occupied by a violin maker and his family.

Grenzdokumentationsstätte Schlutup - Museum Former GDR borderSmall border museum very close to Lübeck.01.07.1953 - 19.08.1974Hans-Georg Lemme Unweit dieser Stelle wurde am späten Abend des 19. August 1974 der'21jährige Hans-Georg Lemme aus Groß Breese beim Versuch, die Elbe zu durchschwimmen, um in die Bundesrepublik zu fliehen, getötet. Nachdem ein Patrouillenboot der DDR-Grenztruppen auf den Flüchtling aufmerksam geworden war und in nicht zur Umkehr bewegen konnte, fuhren die DDR-Grenzer mit ihrem Boot über den Flüchtling. Dabei wurde Lemme durch die Schiffsschraube tödlich verletzt. Sein Leichnam wurde erst nach einigen Tagen in der Elbe treibend entdeckt. Die sterblichen Überreste des jungen Mannes ruhen auf dem Dorffriedhof in Groß Breese. Die an der Tat beteiligten DDR-Grenzer gingen nach dem Mauerfall straffrei aus. Das Landgericht in Schwerin vermochte die Tötungsabsicht des Kapitäns nicht nachzuweisen. Close to this place the 21-year-old Hans-Georg Lemme from Gross Breese was killed by GDR border troops on August 19, 1974 right here in the river. He had tried to flee to West Germany by swimming across the Elbe in the late evening. However, a patrol boat of the GDR border troops noticed the escapee and pursued him. The East German border guards did not lift him out of the water, buat instead drove right over him. Lemme was fatally injured by the propeller of their their boat. His body was discovered floating in the river Elbe a few days later. The remains of the young man were put to rest in the village cemetery of Gross Breese. The East German border. guards responsible for his death were tried by the district court in Schwerin atfer the Wall had collapsed. They were acquitted as their intention to kill could not be proven.

Lankowwas a small German village on the inner-German border that was completely destroyed and razed by GDR border troops in 1976. Starting in 1952, the residents were forcibly resettled because the village lay within the restricted border zone and stood in the way of the expansion of border fortifications.There are still some ground Tales visible, the people from Lankow were deeply traumatised to lose their Village, which was founded in the 13. century.

HolstentorThe Holstentor is a city gate that marks the western boundary of the Old Town of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. It is the city's landmark and was completed in 1478. The Late Gothic structure is one of the remaining parts of Lübeck's city fortifications. Along with the Burgtor, the Holstentor is the only surviving city gate in Lübeck.

Le Roc CournutThe Roc Cornut is a geological curiosity in the Pyrénées-Orientales department. It consists of a cluster of limestone rocks arranged by nature in a unique way, balanced atop one another. There are two layers of stone: the first is made up of several rounded rocks eroded by the wind. One of these is larger than the others and supports the second layer, which consists of a large, mushroom-shaped rock. The entire formation stands approximately 4 to 5 meters tall.
