Live Trip

Your ride, live.
Anyone can follow.

Share a link from DMD2 or the DMD HUB app, and family and friends follow you on a live map: where you are, the road behind you, and the photos, messages and places you drop along the way. Back home, the ride stays as a Trip Journal you can relive.

How it works

Share a link.
That is all it takes.

On a DMD unit, open Trip Sharing in the DMD HUB or tap its button on the map. On an iPhone, open My Trips in the DMD HUB app. Choose what to show, start, and send the link by message to whoever should follow. They open it in any browser: no account, no app.

What they see

A live map of your ride,
on any phone or computer.

Your position moves along the road at your real speed, a few seconds behind you, with the trail you chose to show and every moment you shared on the way. The page keeps itself up to date while it is open.

The Live Trip page on a computer: the rider's live position on a map of Serra do Gerês, the trail of the loop so far with photo, message and viewpoint pins, speed, altitude, climb, distance and moving time, and the moments on the right with photos

A live trip on a computer: the trail so far, the moments where they happened, and the ride's numbers.

The same live trip on a phone: the map with the trail and pins, speed and altitude, and the moments under it with a photo

The same page on a phone.

Right nowSpeed and altitude as you ride, and the trip's distance, time, average and top speed and climb, in the follower's own units. Only if you allow it.
The momentsA timeline of messages, photos, video links and places, with the time and the nearest town. Tap one and the map goes there.
Map or satelliteThe map the HUB planner uses, or satellite imagery with place names, both with relief and 3D terrain. Followers can colour your trail by speed, altitude or slope.
Stops are stopsBelow 5 km/h the trip adds no distance, no climb and no trail: a coffee stop never draws a scribble where the bike was parked.
Their time, your timeEach moment shows your local time where it happened; a follower in another time zone sees the zone next to it.
Who is watchingThe number on your Trip Sharing button is how many people have the page open right now.
The same live trip on satellite imagery with relief: the trail through the mountains of Serra do Gerês and the reservoirs, with town names on top

Satellite with relief: the mountains your followers are looking at.

From the bike

Tell the story
as you ride it.

Everything you share is pinned on the trip where it happened. One tap sends a quick message:

  • Photos from the camera or the gallery, with a caption. A gallery photo lands where it was taken.
  • Video links: paste a YouTube link and it plays right on the page.
  • Places with a name, one of ten categories and a description: into the trip's GPX as a waypoint, into My Locations and the HUB, or both.
  • Edit, hide or delete anything you shared, and turn a sideways photo.

No signal? Positions and posts wait on the unit and go out when the connection returns.

The live trip page with the Chat tab open: followers write from Hamburg and nearby, the rider answers with a Rider badge, and Sign in to chat for visitors

Viewer chat

They cheer.
You ride.

Followers signed in to the DMD HUB can write to you in a chat beside the map; anyone with the link can read it.

On the unit, new messages show as a number on the Trip Sharing button and the Message tab, never a pop-up or a sound while you ride. Answer with one tap from your quick replies when you stop. Delete any message, and block a follower from writing on any of your trips.

The chat comes on by itself when you list a ride on the HUB, and you can switch it on or off for any ride. When the ride ends it closes, and the journal keeps it to replay. A delay covers your position, not the chat: what you write is seen at once.

Your privacy

You decide what they see,
and when.

Your position is what a share is for. Everything else is your choice.

How much trail

None, your position only; the last 1, 3, 6, 12 or 24 hours; or the whole trip. Followers see the choice as a badge, so they know the line is only the recent part.

A delay, if you want one

Live, or 1 to 6 hours behind. With a delay, followers see where you were, never where you are, and it covers the photos, messages and places you share too.

Speed and numbers

Show your current speed, or not. Show the trip's values, or not.

Private to the link

A shared ride is only for the people you send the link to. A journal can stay for anyone with the link or only for you, and gets a fresh link if the old one got around.

Listed, only if you say so

List a ride on the HUB's Live Adventures and signed-in riders can find it. It is off for every new ride, and you can take it off at any time.

Pause

Pause the share for a while: no positions, the clocks stop, and followers see you paused. Resume, and no line is drawn across the gap.

Think before you list a ride. A listed ride is findable: anyone with a HUB account can watch you move without you sending them anything. For a ride that starts or ends at home, or one you ride alone, set a delay, or keep it to the link. The app asks you to read this once, the first time you list.
On the HUB

Live Adventures:
who is out there right now.

Signed-in riders see every listed ride on a map, filtered by continent and country, and can follow along. A ride drops off after two hours without a new position, parked or out of signal, and comes back when the rider rides on. Under the map, Recently finished shows the latest listed journals over 10 km, so there is always a ride to look at.

Your phone joins in

The unit records.
The phone adds.

Signed in to the same HUB account, the phone in your pocket posts to the trip your DMD unit is sharing, at the unit's position when the phone has no fix of its own.

The DMD HUB app

My Trips shows Sharing from your unit with the link, the same message, photo and place composer, and the timeline. Pause or finish the unit's trip from there, or move the recording to the phone.

Any phone's browser

The HUB's quick-add page posts quick messages, a photo from the camera, a video link and a place with its category onto the live trip.

A second DMD unit

Its Trip Sharing reads Sharing on your other device and opens the same companion view, with all the panel's tabs.

No unit today? Share from the iPhone.

The DMD HUB app shares a trip on its own, with the same choices: it posts your position in the background, its share button turns red while it runs, and points wait for signal and go out later.

Back home

A Trip Journal
you can relive.

When you finish, keep the ride as a Trip Journal: the full track, the timeline with the photos and messages, the final values, and the GPX in a My Trips folder in My GPX Files, with your places as waypoints. Or discard it.

Relive plays it back: the camera follows the road, each moment pops up as it is reached, long stops are skipped with a card, and the chat replays as it was written.

On the HUB website, edit the journal's title and description, choose who can see it and whether followers may download the GPX, and click the track to add a photo or a message at that spot after the ride.

Relive on a Trip Journal: the camera follows the rider on satellite imagery, the trail so far, the chat replay as it happened on the right, and the playback bar with marks where the chat was busiest

Relive: the ride plays back, with the chat as it happened.

DMD2's Finish section: keep the link public, keep the GPX in My GPX Files, Keep as Trip Journal, Discard and Cancel

Finishing on a DMD unit.

Never in the way

Your recorder keeps going.

Trip Sharing has its own recorder and its own trip values. It never touches the GPX Recorder, the trip meter, the odometer or your recordings: record and share the same ride, and pausing one does not pause the other.

A share survives closing the app. Forgot to finish? After 24 hours without activity the trip ends on its own, and the app asks whether to keep it as a journal.

Who needs what

Your followers need nothing at all.

The link opens in any browser, on any phone or computer.

  • FollowersA browser. No account, no app. To write in the chat, a free HUB account.
  • On a DMD unit, tablet or Android phoneDMD2, signed in to the DMD HUB. Trip Sharing is part of the DMD2 licence.
  • On an iPhoneThe DMD HUB app, signed in to your HUB account: as a companion to your unit, or sharing on its own.

Ride. They will follow.
