Gola Plješivica - former military communication base
View Point, Peak, Historic / Ruins
Europe Croatia
Warning
The road goes close to croatian-bosnian border, in one part croses the border so you can meet border police officers on the road but you will not have any problem with them.
Gola Plješivica is former military communication base, built by JNA in former Jugoslavia. It is the second highest point (1646 m) in Croatia with road acess. Road to the top of Gola Plešivica is about 12,5 km of gravel road which is in pretty good condition in majority of it`s lenght. Last 2-3 km to the top there it is a bit harder, on part is loose gravel which can be tricky, especially after the rain and after that in last 1,5 km it is rocky road with good grip (when I say rocky I mean solid rocks to avoid or ride over and gravel between them). I was there with Yamaha Super Tenere 1200 so it is doable with bigger adventure bikes but lighter is better for sure. Do not recommend going there without skid plate on the bike and with low ground clearance bikes.
View is really amazing form the top if weather is good. You can see good part of Lika on croatian side of the mountain and part of Bosnia on the other side of the mountain. You can also see Željava Air Base at the bottom of the mountain.
Interesting fact: My father said that this road section was built by my grandfather, who was engeneer in jugoslavian army.
