About this place
Cabo Vírgenes is a promontory in the extreme southeast of Argentina (Province of Santa Cruz), famous for being the ground zero of Ruta Nacional 40, the eastern entrance to the Strait of Magellan and home to one of the largest penguins in Patagonia. Discovered by Fernão de Magalhães in 1520, the place has a historic lighthouse in operation since 1904.
