Holten Canadian War Cemetery

Holten Canadian War Cemetery, or Holterberg Canadian Cemetery, is one of the largest military cemeteries in the Netherlands. The World War II cemetery in Holten is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Holten Canadian War Cemetery contains the graves of 1,394 soldiers, 1,355 of whom are Canadian.

Through the then-mayor of Holten and the Ministry of War, a portion of the Netherlands was donated to the Canadian government for this purpose. The cemetery on Holterberg, which has been part of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park since 2004, remains Canadian territory. In addition to 1,355 Canadians, the Canadian cemetery also contains the graves of 36 Britons, 2 Australians, and 1 Belgian.

Not all the soldiers buried here died in the Netherlands during the Second World War. Victims of the Canadian campaign through Northern Germany in April 1945, whose burial in Germany, at the time the enemy's territory, was also buried here.

The Holterberg Nature Museum is located approximately 250 meters to the southwest. The Canadian Cemetery is located on the Wullenberg, the southern part of the Holterberg. An information center has been located next to the cemetery since 2011, featuring, among other things, a glass artwork by Annemiek Punt, entitled "For All Generations."
