The Canadian House

Historic / Ruins, Monument

  Europe  France

In 1943, the house was requisitioned and occupied by the Germans. This is why it was not destroyed. From the Allied perspective, this house was a remarkable landmark for the troops who were to land. It was therefore essential to preserve it.

On June 6, 1944, this house was the first to be liberated by the Canadians by sea. It is now a symbol of remembrance and of our duty of memory. The Canada House is more than a memorial, it is a living space to commemorate all the soldiers who died in the name of freedom.

The HOFFER family, owners of the house, along with their friends, will open its doors for you whenever they can. If you wish to pay them a visit, do not hesitate to contact them to arrange your trip.
