About this place
U 995 is a German Type VII C/41 submarine of the former Kriegsmarine that saw service during World War II. Commissioned in September 1943, it completed nine patrols. After the war, it was transferred to the Norwegian Navy, serving as a test and training vessel named *Kaura*. It was returned to Germany in 1965 and officially handed over on October 2, 1971. Since March 13, 1972, the submarine has been moored as a museum ship at the foot of the Naval Memorial in Laboe. The German Naval Association operates the U 995 Technical Museum, which, according to the association, attracts around 350,000 visitors annually.
