The old A4 motorway route near Kerpen and Düren in North Rhine-Westphalia is a famous "ghost motorway" and an abandoned site. In 2014, the roadway was relocated southward—at a cost of around 85 million euros—to make way for the Hambach open-cast lignite mine. Since then, traffic has ceased on the old, partially overgrown section.
Die alte A4-Trasse bei Kerpen und Düren in Nordrhein-Westfalen ist eine berühmte „Geisterautobahn“ und ein Lost Place. Die Fahrbahn wurde im Jahr 2014 für rund 85 Millionen Euro vom Braunkohletagebau Hambach nach Süden verlegt. Seitdem ruht der Verkehr auf dem alten, teils zugewachsenen Teilstück.
