KTM North America has announced a recall of 6,546 motorcycles across its KTM and Husqvarna lineups due to an ECU engine management system software defect. The recall, filed with NHTSA under campaign number 25V825, affects 2025 KTM 390 Enduro R, 2025 KTM 390 Adventure X, 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R, 2024 Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, 2024 Husqvarna Svartpilen 401, 2025 KTM 390 SMC R, and 2024–2025 KTM 390 Duke models.

KTM’s investigation began after a customer reported loss of power in July 2025, and by November the manufacturer determined that faulty ECU programming was responsible. As testing continued, engineers confirmed that the defect could, under certain conditions, cause the engine to stall at low RPMs. In their recall announcement KTM states that “while only a limited number of cases have been observed,” they decided to act quickly to eliminate the risk and keep rider confidence high.

HUSQVARNA VITPILEN 401 - 2024

To fix the problem, KTM is rolling out an immediate ECU EMS software update across all affected models. Dealers will install the new software version, which not only reduces the chance of stalling but also improves low‑end torque and overall engine stability.

Owners will start receiving official notices on January 23, 2026, and KTM has already locked affected bikes in dealer inventory until the update is applied. Riders who previously paid for ECU updates will be reimbursed, and KTM is advising owners not to ride their bikes until the fix is complete. Owners may contact KTM customer service at 1-888-985-6090. The manufacturer’s numbers for this recall are KTB2513 & HTB2508.
