Two Years of Turkana Gear: From Curious Rider to Full-Time Believer

Two years ago, I decided to give Turkana Gear a try. Today, it's the only luggage system I use. From daily commutes to weekend rides and long-distance adventures, on-road or off-road, it has never let me down. Built around a simple philosophy—functional, durable, and ready for real adventure—it has survived mud, gravel, rain, and more than a few questionable route choices. While my GPS has occasionally lost the plot, the luggage never has. Sometimes the best gear isn't the gear you notice—it's the gear you forget about because it simply works. And that's exactly why Turkana Gear has earned a permanent place on my bike.

Every adventure rider has that one purchase they make thinking, "Let's see if it's actually worth the hype." Two years ago, that purchase was Turkana Gear.

Fast forward to today, and every ride, whether it's the daily commute, a weekend escape, or a trip where the destination is simply "somewhere that Google Maps starts getting nervous" starts with the same luggage system bolted to the bike.

Over the past two years, it has seen everything from smooth asphalt to muddy forest trails, rocky climbs, deep gravel, endless rain, blazing sunshine, and enough dust to qualify as an archaeological dig. Somewhere along the way, the bike collected a few battle scars, the rider got a little wiser (debatable), but the luggage simply shrugged and asked, "Is that all you've got?"

That's exactly what makes Turkana different.

Their philosophy is beautifully simple: build gear that works, build it to last, and leave the unnecessary gimmicks to the marketing departments. No complicated systems. No fragile plastic parts waiting for the first tip-over. Just rugged equipment that quietly gets on with the job while you concentrate on picking the next line through a muddy rut.

And let's be honest, every ADV rider has had one of those moments. You confidently announce, "This looks like a fun shortcut," only to find yourself axle-deep in mud, wondering if you're starring in a survival documentary. Somehow, the luggage has always remained the least of my worries.

In fact, I trust the Turkana system more than my GPS. The GPS has happily routed me into dead ends, hiking trails, and roads that apparently stopped existing sometime in the late '90s. The luggage, on the other hand, has never questioned my poor decisions—it has simply tagged along.

After thousands of kilometres on and off the beaten path, one thing has become crystal clear: good adventure gear isn't the gear you constantly notice. It's the gear you completely forget about because it simply does its job. That's probably the highest compliment I can give.

Two years later, I'm running Turkana Gear exclusively. Not because someone told me to, but because it has earned its place one muddy trail, one river crossing, one campsite, and one questionable route choice at a time.

Will it survive another two years?

At this rate, I'm fairly certain the luggage will outlast the motorcycle... and if I keep saying, "Let's just see where this trail goes," it might even outlast me.

Because in the world of adventure riding, it's not about having the fanciest gear, it's about having gear that's still smiling when the road disappears.
